  • 2020 Kistler Chardonnay Les Noisetiers

Stored at 55F, and took about 30 minutes for it to come to serving temperature where the fragrance opens up. On the nose, oxidized apples, lemon and hay/wood. It had a bitter after taste similar to if you brush your teeth then drink apple juice immediately afterwards. Alcohol is more upfront than other chardonnays I’ve tasted.

I have a heart for Kistler wine as I visited the Trenton Roadhouse a year back, where it was my first Kistler wine. I would pass on this blend as it’s not for me; their other chardonnays are better in a sense that it’s smoother, not as alcohol-forward as this blend.

  • 2020 Inama Soave Classico Campo dei Tovi

My first Soave, and wasn’t disappointed. On the nose, you get a strong crisp honey apple, peach, and flint/cement. On the palate it is smooth, and on the slightly sweeter side you’d find in Riesling varietals. It’s nothing crazy, but great cellar defender or if you’re looking for something to please a crowd. It has made it to my ‘everyday wine’ where it won’t break the bank, and you don’t need to think if the occasion suites the need - it’s just something simple.

    Do not age; screw cap.

  • 2018 Arthur Metz Riesling

Nose: honey, pear, pineapple, citrus, wet slate, tree leaves

Color/Body: Pale gold, thin, light alcohol burn

Taste: thin body, medium length, acidic and citrusy, honey crisp apples

    ABV: 12.5%

Riesling is easily becoming one of my favorite grape variety. It’s affordable, and could be used in many style - dry, sweet, sparkling, etc.

This one is from Alsace, and a semi-dry type. It surprised me it had a slight sweetness to it, but leaned on the more acidic, crisp and refreshing side. I think this would work well with spicy hot pot or a cool drink in the summer.
