  • 2017 Ridge Lytton Springs

Great wine . I had 1/3 of the bottle and decanted over night for my steak dinner tomorrow night.
delicious wine hitting all the right notes right now.
    Full bodied- ruby color
delicious dark fruit with hints of tobacco, and sweet oak and vanilla. Wine is very dense, concentrated with some well integrated tannins in the finish. No holes in the front, mid and finish. In the finish, I am getting a very particular bitter chocolate hits with shades of eucalyptus. Finish is strong and lasting. Well done!

Let me say that this wine should be decanted for at least 2 hours before consuming. I would even advice putting it away for at least 5 years.

    Tasting: Not Decanted

Nose: Interesting earthy, dusty nose. There is a whole lot of funk going on here. Earthy, loamy with scents of tobacco and barn yard thrown in. Very interesting.

    Sight: Medium bodied, Garnet color
Taste: The first sip caught me a little off guard. This wine is a little on the lighter side for a Napa Cab. This wine has nice crisp acidity that really carries the wine very well. I get shades of bitter chocolate, tobacco and cherries , balanced by well integrated tannins and nice acidity.
Finish: The finish is nice and long. With nice notes of fruit in the back palate.

Day 2: The wine has transformed

The nose is not as expressive as before but the wine did see to gain noticeable weight and concentration. The fruit is a little more apparent with hints of tobacco, balanced by a nice backbone of acidity. Tannins are more present in this wine. The finish is long and satisfying.

Overall: Nice wine. Yet as I mentioned I would put this baby away until all the elements are well integrated. 90-92

  • 2016 Hall Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley

    Note:Not decanted much 1 hour
Nose: Nice sweet nose of vanilla, blueberries and some chocolate. A little heat coming in. I will revisit after a few more hours today or tomorrow. Note the heat wears off after an additional hour.

Update: after an additional 2 hours the fruit becomes more prominent.

    Sight: Deep Garnet and Inky

taste: Full bodied wine, earthy/loamy in character with a very creamy and voluptuous consistency. This is the Marylin Monroe of wines with very little rough edges. I also get get dashes of dark chocolate, vanilla , sweet tobacco and blueberries caressed seamlessly by the sweet tannins. Because of its low acidity, this wine is very easy to drink and enjoy now. Very Cali in its appeal.

Update: The wine gained a little weight after a couple hours. Very nice concentration. I also get a little more acidity in the mid palate. A lot more juicer than 2 hours ago. Nice development.

Finish: Nice long finish (40+seconds). Mid palate is very, very good.

Overall: Good solid cab for the price point ($48)< mind you CA wines are expensive but they have the quality.

Score: 92-93. After further decanting the score was adjusted to 93 to compensate for the improvement. I would decant for at least 3-4 hours to properly enjoy.
