Expectations are a dangerous thing and can ruin your enjoyment of a bottle before ever giving it a real shot. Having opened many bottles of K Vintners produce, you'd typically expect a big full bodied, long finishing, (some would feel over the top), brute. Stylistically, this wine is a surprise. Colored more like a Pinot, with delicate flavors, albeit a very long finish. It's not a S. Rhone, nor a Priorat or even a Red Mountain Grenache. An expression all its own. Interesting, though I would agree with others about a bit of an odd flavor across the finish. I'd expect this bottle has another year or two in the bottle before more secondary flavors take over. Leave your expectations at the door and enjoy this wine for what it is.

I would agree with prior reviews, this is a "modern" take on Rioja lacking the character of the region. Rather nondescript and just OK. If I recall from our visit to the winery some years ago, Unnum was a project headed by Miguel's son. There are certainly other bottlings in Miguel's portfolio you'd be more pleased with than this one.

A note from a week ago... Another wonderfully expressive wine from Gulfi and the slopes of Mt. Etna. In general terms, if you aren't familiar with these wines, I suggest you should get started! The 2106 Reseca is just rounding into it's prime drinking window and is a treat. Broad character, many flavor notes and a pleasing, persistent finish. In many ways I see these wines and the region as I did Rioja a decade or more ago. Terrific QPR and plenty to go around. Cheers!
