I’m not sure if like the 2002 this wine is your 99pt wine or 79pt wine. It’s at 23 years old still very much alive. It’s a massive deeply extracted high alcohol wine with waves of dark fruit and port like density. The finish lasts for a 60-75 seconds. Yes it could use more acidity but given its varietal it’s amazing it still has so much pure fruit and density and shows little if any signs of decline. True it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. My wife loved this wine more than anything she ever tasted when she was 40 and today at 60 she still feels the same. WAF score 100!

  • 1997 Château Gilette Crème de Tête

Near perfect Sauternes. Opens with moderate sweetness, apricots followed by vanilla and caramel notes. All of it supported by beautiful acidity creating tremendous balance and length. Actually stood up to beef tartare and a plate of Cyprus Hill blue cheese. I have had 1997 d’Yquem 5-6 times and although wonderful this wine bests it and will live much longer. Amazing wine.

  • 2003 Warre Porto Vintage

Wonderful vintage port at it sweets spot. Terrific balance. Nose is oddly alcoholic on first whiff but opens to wild cherry, raisin, chocolate and wonderful balance between fruit and alcohol. This to me is all about complexity and balance. There are richer more alcoholic and likely longer lived ports from this vintage but right now I doubt I would enjoy them more.
