High shoulder fill. Cork crumbled and small amount of seepage under the capsule, but seems well kept. Amazingly youthful. I would have guessed this was a mid ‘00’s wine. Vibrant dark color, no bricking. Elegant fruity nose, with black currants and eucalyptus and just a hint of petrol. Palate is plush, showing wonderful forward fruit—mostly black currant variety, bit of blackberry? Fine chunky tannins still present but mostly integrated. Strong finish. It’s not often that a ‘03 Montrose is eclipsed, but it was on this night. Bumped a point later as I kept thinking about this wine--surely a sign of an amazing experience.

Barely bricking very dark red violet color; very aromatic, blackberry syrup, black currant, light eucalyptus nose; silky textured, rich, blackberry syrup, ripe black currant, eucalyptus palate with drying tannins; medium-plus finish (13.5% alcohol)

(but raised to 93+ after repouring at end of tasting, when wines were still opening)
