Consumed sooner than I intended, not because it isn’t ready — it’s delicious right now — but to space out the consumption. Only 2 left. Hands off now for a bit.

This was all systems go today. Light gold; completely free of oxidative signs on the nose or palate. A little sweetness is offset by lively, tense acidity, with flavors of tangy orange marmalade and herbs.
This vintage has always shown well. Great poise and balance. I think with three bottles left, a check in late 2022 or early to middle 2023 is a good hedge on a long-aging bet. It surely isn’t going anywhere bad before then. My only question is whether it’s a 20-year wine, or a 30+ wine. If the latter — and I drink sooner — I will still have a lot of enjoyment. I would regret hanging on too long more than I would drinking before it starts its slide, because it is thoroughly enjoyable now.

Yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of quince and grapefruit rind. Flavors of quince and sherry. Bright acidity, medium to full bodied. Drink over the short term. Not rated. Seemed a tiny bit off.

Lovely wine with a hint of honey, flowers and melon.

A private lunch (Restaurant Rijsel, Amsterdam, NL): Wonderfully pure Chenin expression with just a hint of sweetness, delicately honeyed, mature but still fresh, gentle bitters, lovely length.
