Pnp through Nuance Wine Finer. Reddish brown hue. Ripe and refreshing cherry and strawberry on the nose. On the palate, wonderful balance. Light cherry and strawberry mixed with a hint of spice. Paired very well with pesto. Really nice wine. 91+ pts. Aloha!

What to do in the middle of a global pandemic where the watchword is social distancing? Why, hold a virtual wine tasting with friends. With only 4 bottles of this in the cellar, DDB and I stuffed a bottle in both mailboxes for the Sheets and Smileys, waited for the appointed hour, logged on and twisted off the top. For 45 minutes we struggled with technology, laughed, talked wine, politics and generally socialized from a distance. As for the wine, it was a hit. And why not, what with it versatility as a cocktail or dinner partner. (I assured the Sheets it would pair well with their grilled burgers.) Not so much “Loring Red”, this wine as more cranberry at its core and a clearness on the rim. Still very primary with a nose of cinnamon, chinese (of course) 5 spice and vanilla. Cola and black cherry join in on the attack making for a wine of exuberance. This vintage exhibits more balance than the 2012 vintage. Eventually, Lynne’s phone/iPad ran out of juice, so we all signed off. I grabbed our last bottle and served it with a dinner of cedar plank smoked salmon (prepared over the grill and not in the smoker!). 14.3% alc. A bit of sediment. Recommended.
