One of the highest Premier Cru sites of Terre Nere located between 900 to 1000 meters of altitude. Made from single varietal of Nerello Mascalese planted between 1904-1934, aged in FR oak for 14 months. Medium pale ruby colour, pale garnet rim. Medium+ intensity aroma of cherries, red currants, cranberries, strawberries, roses, spices, leather, herbal touch. Medium+ body, lean entry but full of concentration, soft and round structure, red fruit flavours with smoky notes, medium+ acidity, medium+ spicy tannins.

Not as lifted and energetic as I expected. Medium weight . Touch of new oak still evident. Sweetness from the wood. Mint. Spice. Red fruits. Bright acid. Fine grained tannins settle in the gums and are a little dry. No more than adequate length. Not compelling, but it is balanced and if you are not offended by the new wood it likely has some appeal.

Comprehensive Tenuta delle Terre Nere (Chicago, IL): One of the standouts in the flight; plenty of tannin still (almost nebbiolo like in that powdery way), with a very nice red-fruited quality to the nose and palate. Relatively light with a mild hit of volcanic sulphur.

This wine is still a little tightly wound. You will want to decant it.
