maybe its the fact that this made it into the cellar for 16 months or so, but this is the best La Clarine Syrah I've had. Just a tiny bit of mouse, but structured kalamata, prune, and savory. Juicy, crunchy, but dark and serious. A hit.

Dark violet. Nose floral, black fruit. Palate black cherry, hint of wildness. A bit of tomato acidity. A mineral spine. On day 2: Lactic, nutty, flawed.
12.8% abv.

Little bit of mousiness on this one. Also some spritz. More on the savory side of the syrah spectrum. Prune, olive stems, light chalky minerality. The mousiness became more present with air.

Absolutely lovely syrah, especially at the $30 price point. In fact this drinks like a much more expensive syrah. Typical black pepper and spices, with some very nice acidity and fine tannins to provide good structure. Not overpowering as I find some domestic syrahs – this has a delicacy and seemless integration that suggest it will drink well for the next few years – and might be up for the long haul. This was in a list of best domestic syrahs on WB – I had never heard of it, and given the price decided to grab four of them – glad I did!
