(14.4%) Syrah with small amounts of Viognier and Mourvedre – First off just let me say I love this glass vino-seal closure. This wine is drinking nearly as fresh as it was almost 3 (yes three) weeks ago. This one is opaque purple at the core with a more violet hue on the edges. A great structure here this one starts intense and focused on the palate with juicy blueberries before quickly drying out. A “naturally” made wine I notice a familiarity in the mouthfeel and tannins to many other wines I am a fan of. Mineral notes emerge on the back of the palate along with a bit of pine resin before a sage/thyme component along with some white pepper carries us through a lasting, savory (and just a bit hot) finish. I loved pondering it over the last three weeks and look forward to doing so again sometime soon (if I get the chance->). 175 cases made.

The fruit here is reminiscent of other Foothills wines I've had and liked: sappy, red, intense, and a bit green. I'm sure that greenness relates to the acid that keeps this wine fresh and exceedingly drinkable. Pepper and olive notes appear occasionally, as does a bit of heat. Not overdone to my palate, though. Rather, it was robust - but not huge - and pretty damn tasty.

Medium to full body. Aromatic, almost Pinotage-like, but with good structure and a slightly tart finish. The most unusual domestic Syrah I've tasted. According to the label, this underwent ambient yeast fermentation and aging in neutral oak barrels. Better with food than by itself. Very interesting. 87+

Mostly Syrah, with some Viognier and Mourvèdre. Very strange wine, more like a Marcillac or Pineau d'Aunis in its spicy green-pepper nose and fullish body, but it's a bit less than charming in its overt syrupiness. (It seems as though there is residual sugar.) Kudos for trying something new, but a bit more restraint would have been nice.
