Cassis black raspberry thyme OK sage iodine and milk chocolate on the nose.
Elegant on the palate smooth with just enough grip. Flavours follow the nose. Lingering black tea cassis and herb finish. Has improved with age. Will try and hold my last bottle for five years.

Bought for CAD 61/b (+ 15% + tip) from the wine list at a local restaurant. If you can find it, best online price for the '18 is CAD 38 ('19 is CAD 32 at the winery) so we thought this was worth a try. Good cork. No decant. Medium purple; mature red fruits, prominent tobacco, bit of oak, that follow on the palate; good mouthfeel. We think Merlot can be an Okanagan highlight, but this was not a good example: tobacco was a problem. Would not buy again. My evaluation (see earlier posts for my 4-category, non-point rating system): This is notable- when considering quality, age, and price in the BCLDB environment (high taxes, highly regulated and protected).

I have fond memories of sharing great steak dinners with 2003 Burrowing Owl Merlots as our centre stage wines. I was very sad to drink the last bottle in 2015. So every bottle of newer vintages from this fine winery is always held up against that stellar vintage. While the 2018 doesn’t quite live up to those distant recollections, it’s still a very pleasant smooth merlot that works well with any red meat. The texture is bright with medium acidity. There are notes of mulberry, licorice and blackberries to go with hints of cocoa, tobacco, and stoniness. I’ve been drinking these last few bottles at a local restaurant and don’t have any in my cellar at this point. If I come across any bottles, I will definitely add a couple to my cellar to hold for a few years. Cheers. 🍷

Nez moyennement expressif. Fruit mur et floral. En bouche ampleur moyenne, les tanins sont beaux. Bien fait. Finale sur des notes de cuir
