Some bricking evident. Lively, enough acidity for balance and decent finish. Plum on the nose and palate, lots of texture. Verdict: still alive and enjoyable!

Decanted 1 hour and consumed over 5 hours; best in the 3-4 hour window. Somewhat muted nose, but gave off enough to get the gist of what’s going on. The one-dimensional sour raspberry at hour 1-2 gives way to a settled-in, ripe cherry/blackberry foundation with some background menthol, rust, and slight earthiness. Clearly way past its prime, but a pleasant ghost of what was likely something pretty nice about 5 or 10 years ago. Hour 3 shows nice, balanced acidity in the glass; very smooth and well integrated. More of a drinking wine now rather than one for olfactory senses. Drink now or a decade ago. 89 pts

The Wine Summit; 6/2/2006-6/3/2006 (The Post Hotel in Lake Louise): Medium depth of color – more clarity; less complexity in the bouquet than showed in the 1993, but pleasing and with reasonably good depth; very fine balance – refreshing acidity – tannins resolved – good cherry flavors and a lasting finish.
