  • Not good. Jammy and overblown.

  • Going threw the cellar i thought it time to look at this outstanding 100yr old vineyard in Moppa region of Barrosa.
I remember tasting it on release back in the early 2011 , an it was great than even tho it was expensive at $90 mark, now let's see how its going in Jun 2019.Most of the production went to France in Ch.Teyssier , St Emilion. France.
Deep Black opaque in colour with a ruby garnet rim at June 2019. maturing ( Cork Closure) from the great 2008 year.
On opening we have leaping out of the glass , very ripe plumbs, Prunes shiraz fruit with that very old vines (!00yrs+) barossa complexity and just some bottle maturity too. excellent and getting ready for certain .
On the palate we have now maturing ripe sweet fruit upfront , still deep mid palate richness and soft oily long tannins giving great length ... mmmm Wow great for certain and a privilege to still have a few bottles . this was why R.Parker got so carried away when he was in the Barossa in the mid nineties. This region produces shiraz as good as anywhere , the makers here are old styled in modern terms being picking very late but you can do that in this region. 15%+ alc.
QPR around $ 60 at auctions in Aus. Great with rare meats best.

  • I had something of a different experience with this bottle (from the last), though not with a materially different outcome. Definitely a Barossa shiraz with pronounced fruit - blackberry, plum, tobacco. Whilst the fruit has some intensity, it's not in any sense overpowering The tannins were very smooth. It reminded me more of a Margaret River shiraz. The acidity was very muted, barely being there. Nice enough mid-week drink. The lack of acidity makes me think this wine has a limited future, so my recommendation would be to drink up, not that I will follow my own advice.

  • Not much to this wine. A boring, standard Barossa shiraz. Too much fruit and alcohol, not unpleasant but nothing to anticipate.

  • No longer fancy this, hot, heavy and over oaked. Whatevers
