Smooth, mature Shiraz, perhaps just past its peak with some heat from the alcohol at the end. Blackberries and pepper, a little spicy and also some herbs. Good but not great at €17.

Kleinood is a 10ha estate in the Blaauwklippen Valley and this (14.5% ABV) Shiraz is in fact a blend of 90% Shiraz, 7% Mourvèdre and 3% Viognier, aged for 20 months in 500 litre French oak barrels. At almost eight years of age, this big wine is fully mature. Wonderfully aromatic and deep nose of beef stock, pepper, spices, crushed red fruit, game, minerals and flowers; gentle flavours on the palate, full body, satiny texture, bright acidity and good phenolic grip; relatively light finish indicates maturity. Lovely wine.

This one is very serviceable and interesting. I like the texture. It is really heavy wine and had that element of hitting it's peak and just sliding down the backside. ...

The wine looks ruby colored. The legs are medium. It smells like black pepper and blackberry. It tastes like prune. The body is medium/full. The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has medium acidity.
