JK's 50th Birthday: Took ten hours to open up. Superb lacy acidity and bright fruit for this vintage. Thinner but similar to the old Dujac on the side. 93-94

Cellared since birth. Excellent cork. A deep dark red with a light rim, no real suggestion of age. Vibrant dark cherry, hint of nuttiness, some earth in the background, fruit dominant. Light to medium bodied, silky and refined. Dark cherry with a little red raspberry cherry. Has aged really beautifully, very smooth still with good structure, acidity is good and tannins have softened to a lovely pliant state, fine and furry. Flavours are fruit dominant with a seam of earthiness adding a hint of complexity. Nice.

Classic Hubert de Montille. Bottle fill and cork all excellent. This wine has a lovely, pure pinot nose and serious structure. It will probably peak in 20-30 years and now is still young, but so compelling. Perfect weight and balance, it needs a proper meal, seared fillet mignon with roasted rutabega and greens in this case. Everything one wants in Volnay from the master of the traditional style.
