Another winner from Robert Van Westen ... almost 10 years after its release date in 2012, this blend of Merlot, Cab Franc, Malbec, Cab Sauv and Petit Verdot has aged well in the bottle. As other CT members have already noted in detail below, this is a remarkable wine from a humble winemaker, who describes himself as “just a farmer who learnt to ferment.”
I don't have much to add to their tasting notes ... except regrets that I didn't buy more bottles when I had the chance, and I never joined their Wine Club. I can't do much about the sold-out vintages but I can at least add my name to Van Westen's waiting list. Hopefully, a spot will open up one day soon.
Cheers. 🍷

This is a beautiful wine. Fruit is starting to fade, and tertiary notes are starting express. Bright red fruit on the nose. Incipient brick color with orange edges. It's luck that got me to pull this bottle now. Velvety and earthy texture. Deeply earthy notes dominate the palate. Finish is long and dominated by the play between earthy notes and brightly acidic notes. The tannins get lost in everything else that's going on. This is a winery I want to visit again in the Okanagan Valley.

Meritage-style V with 68% Merlot, 25% Cab Franc, 5.6% Malbec, 1% Cab Sauv, 0.4% Petit Verdot. Color is still showing purple with flashes of dulling red depending on how the light catches it. Not much sediment. Dark fruit aromas, florals, leather …… nice gentle aroma complexity. A mellow fruit oriented Bordeaux style with soft but still grippy tannins. It leads with a slight bourbon flavour followed by plump red fruits, blackberry, cedar, and spices on the finish. Nice medium density on the mouthfeel. Medium to long-ish finish. Medium acidity. Medium tannins. Smooth, elegant. No real sense of “greenness” to the wine.

Medium bodied, good depth to the overall taste. Mainly red fruits, cedar, and spices. Medium acidity, dusty smooth tannins. Overall a pleasure to drink.
