  • Prior bottle was one year ago and this wine remains in a very good spot. Nose continues to show black cherry, plum, light spices and earth notes. Between medium and full bodied with black cherry upfront, showing very pretty rounded notes with some hints of brightness that strengthens through the middle. Mid-body shows plum as well as darker black cherry qualities. There's good depth as well as harmony, bordering on elegance through the middle. Backside shows lightly tart black cherry, integrated spices, earth and mineral notes as well as fine-grained tannins and acidity. Showed best once it had warmed from cellar temperature, which allowed the mid-body nuances to shine and the transition to the finish to show how positively it has evolved. Based on these consistent notes, it feels like the wine is at peak. It should be able to maintain this level for a bit of time, but worth drinking more near term in order to enjoy this wine at its current high level.

  • brought this bottle to clarizios italian ristorante in freehod. shared with pat, marty and sandy. i selected this bottle to pair with the cuisine which turned out to work well. served with main course selections ranging from salmon to pasta to veal. i had promised marty an older wine that was still in its prime drinking range which proved to be the case. as per the recent tasting note from another member, i gave the bottle one hour of air before serving. the wine showed beautifully. sangio nose leaps out of the glass. complex red fruits on the palate. acid and tannin nearly resolved. everything in perfect balance. enjoyed by all. although both have their charms, i prefer the 2008 to the 2009. will try to be paitent and wait awhile before opening my last bottle.

  • Decanted for 80 minutes then it was superb. Absolutely perfect balance, loads of complexity, flavor and length. Tannins were so well integrated that it drank with beautiful youthful exuberance. We visited the estate in 2010 and were treated like royalty by Carlo and his team. He mentioned with a wink that the 2008 would shine when all the critics were shouting about 2009. So glad we listened.

  • Prior bottle was a bit over 2 years ago and the wine has improved markedly in that time. Black cherry, plum, spices and earth notes on the nose. Between medium and full bodied with black cherry upfront showing more expressiveness than previously. The upfront fruit has both higher toned brightness and more rounded and open qualities. Mid-body has more depth than prior bottle and balance is much improved as well. The black cherry is now supported by a deeper, darker plum quality through the middle and then backed with fine grained tannins, acidity, lightly tart red cherry, spices and minerals. The integration between mid-body and finish has improved while the wine overall is noticeably more elegant and silky. Was showing well at 2 hours open and continued through 4 in total. Very pleased and impressed with how positively this wine has evolved and while I expect it has several more years left in front of it, this phase is too good to pass up and I'll plan to open my next bottle later in 2023.
