This really hit the spot with a hearty beef dinner. Layered, sumptuous and aromatically deep. Robust tannins complement the palate of licorice, blueberries, sage, black pepper. Bien Nacido is one of my favorite spots for California Syrah … maybe any Syrah.

Color: dark, nearly opaque magenta -> dense ruby rim. Tight nose that needed some time to open up; blackberries, black cherries, dark chocolate and liquid smoke. Plump, young palate; silky smooth with a light, well integrated tannin profile. Black fruited palate with some asphalt and minerality; there's a lot to like here. Reminds me a bit of some Booker wines from Paso. Quite lovely and well balanced; youthful now but with room for positive evolution.

Popped & poured, drank over 2 nights. Improved with time. Dark, almost black in the glass. Aromas are brooding and need some coaxing, but the cherry fruit is there. On the palate, the juice is much more lively. The fruit pops. Lots of life ahead, this likely will be better in a few years.

Another bad bottle purchased from an online auction website. Caveat emptor.

Drank great - smoothed slightly with air but no reason to wait...
