Community Tasting Notes (3)

  • Sadly, this btl has seen better days (see previous note). I bought it at the winery in 2014, but it had a rough transit back to the US and I think it suffered along the way. Likely heat damaged, and I should have opened it earlier. Very attenuated.

  • When I brought this home from France, it showed signs of seepage...that was over two years ago. Other bottles I brought back with me from the same producer showed similar seepage, but were never flawed. Finally, I decided I should test this out...

Double decanted. Rather austere now by comparison to my previous experience. Nevertheless, intense nose of wood toast, menthol, spice, and dark strawberry. On the palate, fantastic acidity. By itself, mouth-puckering tannin..needs a lot more time to soften. With Miyazaki A5 Wagyu, the tannin subsides a bit and provides a perfect complement: soft enough fruit to let the beef shine, and balanced acidity to not make the wine seem astringent. Come back to my next bottle in another 10 years or so...

  • Tasted at winery. Just spectacular. Dark, brooding, powerful, earthy...but a bit astringent. The nose is very complex, but showing primary flavors right now. It was clear I was tasting for potential as this is very tannic now. According to Confuron, we should wait at least 10 years to drink this.
