  • We have tried and know that Tablas Creek is highly respected, but we just don't like its wines very much. This one is thin and lacking in flavor.

  • As of this writing date, we found this wine needed quite a bit of time in the decanter before it opened up to its full potential, which was absolutely delicious. Unfortunately we were through most of it before it found its sweet spot. I’d go for 90 minutes at least.

  • Incredible. Truly outstanding wine. Another bottle of this consumed at the holidays eight years ago was noted as "quite good, fairly ripe" over a couple of nights. Fast forward (*) and it is a great wine. Led by Grenache this vintage at 63% followed by near-equal amounts of Syrah, Mourvedre, and Counoise wit Tannat rounding it out at 6%. The combination is perfect with aged Grenache in the lead.

I jotted down some descriptors. framboise, umami, balsamic, red currant, fig, plum, an herbal undercurrent, dried bay leaf, sweet herbs, eucalyptus, hints of chocolate, some loamy earth lurking, touches of dried leather, barely aged meat. Still, I couldn't quite capture why I was so enthralled by it.

    Paired great with sirloin steak.

This was excellent on PnP and over a several hours slow ox and being poured.

*Note: This bottle has been stored under good, but not ideal conditions - dark, mostly with seasonal temperature fluctuations between low-mid-50s - mid-upper-60s F. So if you've got ideally stored bottles then another 3-5 years might do you right.

Aside: A '96' is a very high score for me as I use the recommended CT scale, absolute, not QPR-adjusted.

  • Just a tremendous wine. Non traditional GSM with Tannat, but its 8% really adds to the wine. Definitely grenache dominant, but much more complex.

  • Just a phenomenal wine. Perfectly balanced, full from front to back palate. So well crafted and blended. Drink now or maybe till 2025, but so good now, drink up.
