  • 1st wine of the Jen vert from her cellar.......all decanted 2-3 hours, I believe?

Soft, red fruit......on the nose has mushroom, some waxy, slightly sweet crayon notes. Palate reveals bright cherry fruit with a slight tart ending. This drinks like it's older so moving into its tertiary phase ever so slightly. Could easily be mistaken for something from BDX circa '01. Acidity seems to be waning. If you like them with any fruit left you should drink them now as everything will fade further from here, IMO. I'm very happy with it as I enjoy both Cali and BDX wines. Those of you who, like Carol, want only big sweet fruit bombs, will probably want to pass.....nice wine to start the trip off, thanks, Jen!

  • Wineapolooza in Atlanta; 5/21/2021-5/23/2021 (My house): Kinsella vertical that I had been saving for this occasion. I started with the 2011 because I usually don’t like the vintage, but this was a nice surprise. Certainly leaner than the 2012 and 2013, but no green or pyrazine flavors. Medium body, smooth tannins, soft acidity and flavors of currants (red and black), mushrooms and juniper.

  • Two hour decant. Very deep ruby magenta color. Mushroom, crayon, black currant, and dried juniper on the nose. Very smooth, dry palate, with soft lingering acidity. Full, round tannins on the longish finish. Pretty impressive considering the vintage.

  • Brief note. Better than a month ago immediately out of the bottle. Rich and berry driven, viscous, the right amount of peppery tannin. Makes me wonder more about this vintage. I think in an hour this wine will increase in its acidic profile. This wine will not last and drinks better quickly and not decanted nor laid for hours opened.

  • Here is a wine which has all of the tools for a great wine. The Viscosity, color and mouthfeel are awesome. At the mid palette a tinge of bright and tinny fruit appear. On the finish this wine begins to be dominated by sour fruits and even more sour acidity which makes me wonder if they picked rotted berries.

I then think .... no way! Thomas R Brown is far more selective than that.

That said I want to believe it just a bad year. Avoid this vintage.
