Tasted blind, this wine had a deep red center and orange rims. The high- intensity nose showed anise, minerals, plums, and black cherries. Later on it added some mocha.
In the mouth, this wine was rich and ripe with great acidity and length. It had rounded tannin as well.
While I doubt this wine will improve, it will certainly last at this level for many years.

Tasted blind, this wine had a deep red center with tawny rims. The medium intensity nose emanated black cherries, Provencal herbs, tan spices, and pums.
In the mouth, this wine was medium bodied with great balance, light tannin, and solid acidity. While it did not offer the utmost in complexity, it was certainly no dud either.
This bottle continued to develop for 4 hours. I would say it has been at this peak level for years and will probably continue to hang in there for quite a few more.

(COTE ROTIE Jaboulet Les Jumelles) UPDATE: Il Poggione Brunello Offers I noted last week that the 2004 Il Poggione Brunello may be the most offered/reacted to wine I've ever witnessed post-Wine Advocate review (outside of the annual Bordeaux rampage). The offers started a few weeks ago when Antonio Galloni hinted that this was one of the top examples of the vintage and they haven't stopped since. I've received so many retailer offers for this wine that I'm sure most consumers have received even more (I'm not even on all of these email lists but somehow they've all found me). As of today... The 2004 Il Poggione Brunello offer count as of July 10th: 47 offers with a price disparity of over $40/bottle I believe this is a record. So far, Wine Exchange, Wine House and Chicago Wine Company lead the way with the lowest prices ($34.99, $35.99 and $37.50 - Woodland Hills is at $39.99 - Emeryville is not even close at $49.99 and dozens of others fall in line after that) but MAKE SURE you inquire about provenance. Espresso and cocoa on the nose. Still tannic, but drinking well thanks to the abundant fruit.
