  • Did a side by side with the 2013 and 2014 Snipes Mountain Grenache along with an Old World CdP.

The 2013 is showing signs of age in color and aroma but in a good way. The bottle was PnP and displayed a ruby bricking color in the glass. The aroma of faint red fruits with stewed strawberry and hints of black olive.

The palate was very similar and although the bright red fruits were there they are subdued allowing the secondary flavors to shine. Medium body and nicely balanced.

  • WA Grenache Tasting: Red warm fruit. Fresh and felt very young.
Mid acidity, low tannins. Quite a bit of heat..
Red plums with mid finish. 5/6 for flight.

  • Opened the Columbia Valley and Snipes Mountain bottles at the same time. Nice differentiation between the bottles. The Columbia Valley bottle shows darker fruit (plum, blackberry), menthol, forest floor, and a touch of barnyard and earth on the nose. The Snipes Mountain bottle shows cherry, strawberry, earth, a little new leather, and over time a hint of caramel. Both are a bit fumey. The Columbia Valley bottle shows blackberry, herbs, spice, earth, and cranberry on the palate. Snipes Mtn shows strawberry and blackberry, licorice, herbs, and spice on the palate. Both show a little spicy heat. Both have decent acidity, fine tannins, medium length finishes. Overall, these were good wines, though the alcohol poked through a little too much for me. I suspect that less alcohol sensitive drinkers would enjoy these wines quite a bit.
