  • Tasted over 4 hrs, savoring every sniff and sip
    -nearly semi-translucent ruddy red purple
-glorious generous full complex savory earthy cherry stewed tomato with some '04 herbal-ness adding seasoning and some sousbois sneaking in
-med/med+ acidity, med- weight belies the intense slightly chalky sappiness of savory bitter herbal saline red apple peel, med- tannins ever so slightly dried out; over a few hours it just evolves to become more open and interesting, as always the last sip is the best
-mature but not old, the last of our bottles and quite likely the last we'll ever test of this beauty, very distinctive and not everybody's cup of tea but for those who love Truchot's wines and who liked much from the '04 vintage this is pure magic

  • Tasted double blind. Sweet, delicious red fruit, quite resolved though showing a tick of energy from its fresh acidity. There’s an attractive green accent to the fruit, giving impressions of mixed herbs and pine. Has good depth of flavor but light on its feet. Resolved tannins. Graceful medium finish. There’s a purity and succulence to the fruit that stands out here, and interestingly, the second pour of this was more energetic than the first. Like going from a slack line to getting a nibble, in fisherman’s parlance. I don’t think these wines were ever intended to be investment grade, but Truchot became known for his unique touch, not much new oak, and favoring higher yields. Could help explain the succulent nature of the fruit, and why the wine seemed 10 or more years older than the vintage, though there’s no question, this is one of the top 04’s I’ve had.

  • Just a hint of greenness here, but not objectionable. Nice balance. Overal lean and taut. A victory for the vintage. The table was split, with half preferring the '04, although my preference was with the '98. 92-93

  • First Truchot. Smoky, pine aromas. Very resolved palate with lean, old school style.
