  • Mainly Mourvèdre with a little bit of Grenache in the blend. Fermented in stainless steel, aged in oak. 13,5% alcohol.

Deep, dark cherry red color with a hint of youthful purple. Permits some light through. Somewhat dry and savory nose with aromas of roasted potato, some smoke, a little bit of dried leather, a hint of strawberry and a touch of blackcurrant. The wine is dry, medium-bodied and rather dull on the palate with somewhat concentrated mouthfeel yet surprisingly mild, earthy flavors of garrigue, sour cherry bitterness, some fresh dark berries, a little bit of wizened red plums, a hint of strawberry and a touch of game. The wine is moderately high in acidity with grippy, slowly piling-up medium tannins. The finish is long, meaty and rather grippy with dark-toned, savory flavors of blackcurrants, some strawberries, a little bit of earthy spices, light pruney notes, a hint of game and a touch of garrigue.

A surprisingly dull and earthy effort, even for a Bandol, which can be quite understated in the fruit department. It's hard to say if this wine is in a sound condition since there is no control bottle, but this feels like it has been kept in less-than-optimal conditions. The fruit department feels like it has been hit by temperature - although not to the extent it'd taste stewed - and the smoky potato aromas in the nose certainly suggested something along those lines as well. All in all, a very underwhelming effort in a comparative tasting of Bandol wines. The least impressive and least interesting wine in the lineup. Poor value at 43€.
