  • This was one of the WOW wines of a great tasting. A number of years ago, Sassetti told my that this was a sleeper of a vintage, and I am still tresuring the one bottle that he let me take home with me. I could tell that the Caparzo was going to be a heady experience when I sniffed the bottle that had been opened for about two hours. Sour cherry infused with cedar, tobacco and spiced. The bouquet on this wine was a veritable garland of secondary and tertiary sangioveto notes. Rich, warm, complex, captivating aromas of cedary, wintry, earthy notes, accented with dried, sour cherries and all bound around some still lively acidic core. On the palate, warm, rich, expansive, mid-weight and nearly resolved tannins made for a profound experience. A stuffning performance for a normale at age 27!
