Solid cork, though damp to the very top. Good ruby red. A little woodsy on the nose - with some leather notes - but also delicately expressive of red berries. Complex on the palate. Nothing cedar on this bottle, though the leather is once again present. Some mint. Juicy texture to the fruit. Very red fruited for a Cabernet. Some acid still, giving freshness. Fully resolved tannins - barely perceptible now. Real elegance. Very good length. It was never a powerful wine - and it's precision and delicacy sits completely outside the norm for Australian wine of its time. This is really beautiful. At the beginning of a graceful decline, this is still in a very good place tonight. Bought in Mosman in Sydney at Vintage Cellars - about 1998. Will still keep - though the structural components are now quite slight.
First Wednesday Wine Club (Napoli in Bocca, Haberfield): Served blind. Aromas of pyrazine, pencil shavings, a little blackcurrant, leather, cedar, slight alcohol warmth. Medium plus intensity acidity chewy tannins, it's quite savoury and there is a touch of sourness to the fruit, leather. I guessed aged cabernet blend, new world, south africa, stellenbosch

Last Tuesday Supper Club (One Penny Red, Summer Hill): Aromas of leather, slightly funky/bretty notes, red currant, pyrazine, gamey, slight pepper notes to the savoury spice. Earthy. in the mouth it's sourly juicy with red currant fruit, leather, drying talc textured tannins, an odd combination of green herbaceous qualities and alcohol warmth. Ugh.

Mount Mary Quintet Vertical (S&N's, Melbourne): Light-medium ruby with browning rim. Expressive and complex nose of leather cherry, cigar box, spice and herbs (much less Brett than the '92). A bit plusher on the palate than the '92, but still an elegant fresh wine with little remaining tannin. Something slightly out of joint with the flavours, but still good drinking, with the nose the highlight. Drink now.

Birthday wines; 12/10/2010-12/14/2010: Beautifully enveloped nose of fresh red attractive fruits and some red flowers. Bordeaux seductiveness and sexiness reverberates from this wine. Delicious fresh wine with it's ultra attractive fruits yet carrying a bitter toned earthiness and truffles underneath. This teases with it's interplay of bitter sweet flavors but ultimately the strong charactered finish takes over and ensures it's terroir of menthol eucalyptus punctuates it's mark in your mind. Excellent pretty wine.
