  Just starting on a downward spiral. Drink up and move on (in my case the 2020 vintage).

  A restrained and elegant Nero d’avola — a nose of crushed stones, herbs, dark berries, hints of licorice. It doesn’t jump out of the glass but it’s has enough oomph. The palate is tight and refined with lots of minderality, more crushed stones, wild berries. The tannins are slightly chalky and aren’t completely integrated but there’s nothing angular about it either.
  
  Really interesting, and polished Nero d’avola — its strength isn’t in the specificity but rather a sort of different style than you frequently see.

  Served from decanter at cool cellar temp. Enjoyable and clearly Italian if not so evidently Sicilian or Nero D'Avolan. Buoyant if somewhat anodyne/undifferentiated dark red fruit with fruit sweetness (guessing RS <2g/l) and very fine, gently gripping tannins. WE review of 2018 suggested drinking by '21, but this sure seems to be in good spot now (though I wouldn't hold too terribly much longer). As mentioned by someone else, not the most rustic Nero D'Avola, but not polished or confected, either. Not sure I'd be stoked at $38, but at $15 on clearance it's pretty durned attractive. Delicious with roasted eggplant/fresh mozzarella/homemade red sauce on good bread. Developed greater clarity and Italian-ness with time in decanter.

  I like my Nero d' a little on the rustic side, so maybe I'm not typical. This was pretty smooth, a bit generic in its dark berry, not very complex. There's a lot of inexpensive Nero d'Avola out there, so this wasn't really a screaming bargain, either. Nice package, and this is a highly regarded Italian winery firm (Mazzei of Fonterutoli fame in Tuscany), but not a repurchase for me.
