  • Third and final bottle, this was the only worth the price. Unlike prior bottles, this wasn’t flawed.

My initial thought was this smells like Scarecrow! As it got a bit of air, it became a bit boozy and oaky on the nose, bourbon and coke, cedar sawdust, red cherry, crushed pepper. On the palate, less boozy, bittersweet notes with more cedar, red cherry, hint of plum.

After 2+ hrs this really shined. All of the above, plus red raspberry, chocolate covered cherries, morello cherries, dark chocolate, nose reminded me of the old school Wiitmans Chocolate Box!

93 early, 95 late. Early score is user error, later score is it! I’m just happy 1 bottle wasn’t flawed.

  • I like fruit with my newspaper in the morning, but I don’t like a bed of stewed fruit on a plate of wet newspaper. Second bad bottle, someone will never sell me wine again.

  • Not sure what happened here. Cork wouldn’t come out with a corkscrew but seemed loose with a butler’s thief. Double decant for 2 hrs, initial nose seemed off. Boozy nose with cough drops and cedar, palate was hot and sharp with red licorice, some red cherry, underripe plum, milk chocolate. Unlike any of the notes prior. Better outside than inside but even that wasn’t enough. Not a fruit/flower day, will try again and decide whether this is bottle variation, lunar calendar effects, I still dislike Rutherford, or just bad provenance. Half the bottle went down the drain…80s if scoring

  • Decanted for about 45 minutes. Fresh and vibrant. Beautiful wine showing age. Reminiscent of a left bank bordeaux as minerals are becoming more apparent. Great balance and long fine tannin finish. No hurry to drink. Should stay in the drinking window for another decade.

  • After a couple hours of air and a little swirling, this was drinking beautifully. Right from the first sip, the pedigree of this stood tall. Sweet core of cherries, plum, black currant, cassis enveloped in a toasty oak, earthy background hints. This was a sumptuous. Interesting that I paid the same price on release from the winery that is available at retail today.
