  • Fantastic coming from a Campo Viejo fan. Smooth, a little tannin. Nothing on the front- it’s all on the finish. $15. Very good, drinkable wine!!

  • This was more interesting than I was expecting a $12 (CDN) bottle to be. Day 1 not so much (lets call it an 85) but day 2 layers of flavor emerged. Either bump this back in your queue for a year or so or give it a good long decant.

  • Sat, 06/08/19, $2 Tasting (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): "100% Garnacha de Aragón, the oldest clone of Garnacha (Grenache) in the world, from multiple old mtn vyds (El Plano, Barranco de la Rambla, Cerro Verde, Cerro del Cura, La Laguna…) which are traditionally dry farmed & were planted in Cambrian-Silurian slate & quartz soils, partially covered by a thin layer of calcareous Mesozoic soiis, between 1945 and 1970. Hand-harvested & stored in small 20 kg boxes. Fermentation takes place in concrete & s/s tanks with wild yeast, ff'd by aging in the same."

N: Slightly closed; RIPE berries with notes of smoke; Intensity lurking?

P: Med, poss LM, body; RNDISH entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish frt met by an astringent pucker which QUITE resolves by the LONG, balanced finish with a bitter/swtness to the fairly innocuous, dusty tannins. For now & through '21, + could improve a BIT for 6 mos or so. 15.5% ABV; My EXC-, poss even more for the QPR of this vendor's $6.95, which is $1 < wine-searcher's lowest. 90 pts Jeb Dunnuck.

    Note: Also tasted on 1/26/2019.

N: Slightly closed; Vanilla, poss spice, atop ripe berries; Intensity lurking?

P: Med body; RNDISH entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish frt met by some astringent pucker which pretty much carries through to the LONG, very, VERY slightly puckerish finish with a distinct swtness to the dusty tannins that ULT calm WAY down. AMAZING substance for the price, & would be approachable now with food for those who tolerate acidity well. Otherwise, cellar into '20, then drink for the ff 3, probably 4, yrs. My EXC-/EXC, the higher likely for both its QPR & potential. 90 pts Jeb Dunnuck. [This vendor's $6.95 is @ the head of wine-searcher's class!]
