  • My first bottle in over three years, this (L MS1) is drinking beautifully. It was decanted for three hours and has all the characteristics of Calabretta's interpretation of Nerello Mascalese, albeit for this vintage in a relatively lighter, less rustic and more elegant version than usual. Sweet and sour cherry, raspberry, a hint of mint/rosemary, a pleasing light antiseptic note, white pepper and raw steak, medium+ body, good acid and tannin structure and a nice mineral finish. Outstanding QPR, drink to 2030.

  • OMG, just singing today, the best of all my bottles yet. Wonderfully complex both on the nose and palate. Awesome with homemade chestnut gnocchi with sage and brown butter sauce.

  • Prior bottle was a bit over 20 months ago and this wine remains in a very good spot. Black cherry, some red cherry and mix of spice/savory notes on the nose. Medium bodied (once it's been open for about 2 hours) with a fruit profile that's evolved a bit from my prior bottle, showing black cherry that's a touch more rounded (not quite as deep) along with some red cherry notes that are coming through more clearly now. The mid-body is a good mix of bright black cherry, rounded black cherry, dark red cherry and brighter red cherry. Backside has continued to integrate with fine grained tannins, acidity and a mix of spices, earth and minerals. Comes off as lighter and less well balanced when first opened, but give it time. After the two hour mark, really seemed to hit it's stride. This tell me that it should be able to maintain the current level for a bit longer and I'll wait until late Summer/early Fall 2024 for my last bottle.

  • Drinking extremely well. There are strong notes of licorice, sour cherry, and a floral element. It opens up with time to reveal a tobacco note, which is lovely. There is good acidity, inviting another sip. Very enjoyable

  • Another great bottle of this wine. It needs richer food to shine, as the fine acidity provides a good counterbalance. I drank this with a Bolognese Ragu in risotto and it was a good foil. Dark, sour cherry;lavender; herbs. This is even better than my last bottles so it seems to be improving. Medium body, some drying tannins, not a blockbuster thank goodness.
