This has the white/crimson label, not the black label. The most difficult champagne cork I've ever removed, we could not get it out with our hands and I had to use a corkscrew. This was spectacular from the start. Classic Mesnil, with green apple and ripe lemon, jasmine flowers, crushed rocks, pastry crust, and just a slight patina of hazelnuty development. Intense and long, chalky, still lots of fruit, not oxidative at all, excellent balance of fruit and chalk.

Relatively developed and dark color, and not a lot of mousse left. Mature yellow fruit aromas with notes of honey and malt. Good depth and concentration, but has lost some fruit and freshness.

Wines Tasted at HDH Auction; 12/13/2018-12/15/2018 (Spiaggia - Chicago IL): Small glass, brief note. Lots of fully mature apple with earth notes. Good acidity and very good weight, but long in the tooth, giving this more yeastiness than I typically find in Chetillons (the successor to this bottling in later vintages). Most likely better 5 years ago.

Fully matured. Caramell och mushrooms notes together with grilled lemon and saline. Fresh acididity and long aftertaste.
