Since last being tasted 4/21/2020, Macchia's 2018 "Adventurous" Zinfandel has changed very little. Dark bramble fruits, exotic spices, smoke, black pepper, bittersweet chocolate and dried herbs reside in a medium-to-full-bodied frame that is buttressed with fresh acidity, silky tannins and moderate oak. The wine's lofty 16.5% alcohol can be coaxed to lurk quietly by serving it at approximately 60°F. Solid on the mid-palate and finishing with medium length, this fruity Zin will be best in its youth. Drink now-2023.

Despite weighing in at a lofty 16.5% alcohol, this brambly, smoky, dried herb and spice-filled Zinfandel does not throw any heat when served at 60°F. Despite its ripe fruit, there is a good balancing acidity, modest oak and fairly soft tannins. Medium-to-full-bodied and solid on the middle palate, it goes on to close with a medium-length finish that flashes notes of black pepper. With the right serving temperature you will be pleased. This should be best when young and fruity. Drink now-2023.

Little hot in the bottle - not bad but better zins. The nose was fantastic with ripe blackberries, dark red cherry, and a bit of cocoa. But the mouth had a bit of a bite and drank hot (it’s 16.5) dark cherry and cocoa with spice on the tongue
