  3 days in Napa: Arkenstone, Memento Mori, Maxem, The French Laundry, Christopher Tynan, Kinsman, Harlan, Vice Versa, Accendo, Fairchild, Macdonald, and a truckload of others (Napa): Barrel sample. Outstanding acid and beautifully defined fine-grained tannins fashion a gorgeously fresh and grippy MG. Blackberry seed and freshly popped pomegranate seeds lead the charge, with the speed and palate endurance that launch the flavors from front to back with both precision and commanding gusto. Unripe plum and river rock notes add to the already vibrant and complex wine. This has a wild side to it that I am instantly drawn to. An infant of a sample, but one of amazing promise. A wine that may exceed my numerical range and top out at the very top of the scales once given a decade in bottle to integrate and develop its ultimate identity. Through the lens of this wine, there is a sense that Tynan is trying to make something very special here, even historical. Fresh and enchanting. 97-99 points.

  Based on this barrel sample, I'd guess the 19 may eclipse all the other vintages of this wine. There is something really great that happens when you get a more opulently fruited vintage and pair it with a classically made and older school style from a great winemaker. That seems to be what you have here.
  
  Absolutely unreal fruit quality and purity comes bursting at you from the first sip. Aromas of rose petals, blackberries, asian spices, fragrant earth and cedar are striking and intoxicating. Shows all the qualities you'd want in a Napa Cab: insane freshness, perfect fruit quality, fantastic energy, seamless but strong tannins and chiseled precision. This will be epic. 98-99+

  Dream Trip - Napa On A Mission - All My favorites Plus A Few New Ones; 4/1/2021-4/4/2021 (Napa Valley): Question: Who is Christopher Tynan and what the heck is the MG vineyard?
  
  Answer: A new favorite winery and vineyard that no one knows about.
  
  Apparently it is made from some really old vines with elevation in St Helena and named after wild turkeys, not the spirit although a good drinking game would be to drink wild turkey and then see who can spell this vineyard name. Each letter they get wrong is a drink... ok I have a problem and might have just veered off topic.
  
  While this is still a barrel sample, it has already started to showcase what it can become in what we have found to be a stellar vintage across the board (2019 may be a cross between 2015 and 2012/2014 - ok I have no idea but I keep thinking close to 2015). Without having experience with this wine and how it develops in the bottle (although we did get some great first hand knowledge during this tasting) I would put this is the solid mid to high 90s. The way this is drinking now, it might be a more accessible vintage but what the heck do I know.
  
  I never had the opportunity to taste the MG previously however I was able to buy the 2016 release after coming off the wait list. These wines are built for the long haul but unlike others are super enjoyable with enough time in the decanter but are awesome with time in the cellar. These are not fruit bombs rather highly beautiful age worthy wines. Can’t wait for this to come out in bottle but don’t hold your breathe as it’s two years in barrel and two years in bottle and only a handful of barrels.
  
  Tynan wines were the surprise of the trip for both the group and me. Get on this list before it’s too late

The dark crimson and black/purple juice is so fresh and pure, with unmatched energy that is likely going to make a stab at lapping the 2018 one day. The 2018 and 2019 vintages have been more than kind to the Tynan MG and are going to produce stellar examples of Napa Cabernet that will top the “best of” lists across the Valley. I’m gonna have to be extra nice to Christopher Tynan between now and 2022 to make sure I get me an allocation of this elixir. A tremendous sample.

  Tasting w/Chris Tynan (Cliff Lede Caves, Yountville): This was a WOW wine right out of the barrel. Coming right after the 2018, this was surprisingly showing even better. Very similar nose as the 18, with lots of expressive creme de cassis, black cherry, violets and forest floor. Chewy tannin gives way to excellent backbone. Super pure and amazingly concentrated, this showed serious depth and great potential to be something near perfect when it gets to bottle. Obviously this is very early (about 10 days in barrel), so lots of potential variability here. 98-100
