PnP then ~1hr in the glass. Best sip was at PnP and then the walls started to close in. Gorgeous from first pour with lushness yet great dark earth and minerals all centered around big dark fruit. Until the structure kicked in, it was everything I love from the deep dark fruits to the earth & minerals giving this such complex and structured experience it was not hard to keep going back for more. I would hold for 3-5 more years and allow the structured components to soften and integrate into an entirely new phase of goodness. Can’t have enough of this in the cellar.

Gorgeous wine right from PnP! Beautiful notes of honey, orange spice, acacia flower, orange marmelade, Baked Apple- yellow and a sweet gala, almost cider like, sweet not tart lemon squares. apricot, medium acid, melted brown sugar. with some wet rock on the finish. Drink now as there is not enough structure to go the distance

Possibly the greatest owners ever. Was so fun to pull this bottle and immediately be transported back that inappropriate Bevan/Marston meeting at the Italian restaurant so many years ago. Wine still has plenty to great structure and stuffing to go the distance. Wish I had more to check in again at 5 & 10 years. Was a treat to open this and drink in history. More of an old School Napa wine - would love to visit again and see what they are up to. Great stuff!
4/3/2024 5:46:00 PM - Haha just now getting around to reading this. You are spot on in regard to wine by the glass at most restaurants. The staple around Dallas: Rombauer Chardonnay (RETCH). It’s tough being a wine snob, but I carry the mantle proudly :)
12/11/2023 9:20:00 AM - Hello LitIt, what's new? Please raed that and buy, buy! LOL

G. Pouthier elected best winemaker in France!!! in front of Leroy, Romanée Conti, Petrus, Figeac.....
I'm very proud of him and of me too, since I've been advising people to jump on all their bottles since 2014 anyway! I'll put the link below. And advise you once again to buy, especially the 2022 and 2016, the winemaker's favorites and mine too

5/22/2023 12:00:00 PM - You:Can’t go to restaurants and order a glass of wine anymore as the wine purveyors and most Somms either don’t really understand wine or their target market frankly doesn’t care.
His job is, sell the wine..
Greetings
Reinhard

9/19/2022 5:46:00 PM - Hi Lite! I've been noticing a lot of your CT notes and realized that you are also a Phoenician. I had seen your handle shared by another wine aficionado (not on CT, but he is @wineprn) that has invited me to various upcoming wine experiences in DTPHX. I hope to meet you and share some bottles one of these days. I will be at the upcoming Sep 20th CA/OR dinner, Sep 29th Troplong, -maybe the truffle dinner-, and the Nov Ducru dinner. If you are at any of those, I'd love to say hello!
10/23/2021 12:19:00 PM - The 08 Krug is available. Look on winesearcher. I’ve purchased 16 bottles so far. I’ll bump it up to 24 once more become available and plan to pop a bottle shortly.
10/13/2021 12:13:00 PM - Hello Lite. Just an FYI. I didn't purchase when offered Maxem this year, DOH! Don't know what I was thinking. I e-mailed Nancy with a mea culpa and asked if they had any inventory they wanted to sell. She wrote back and said they still have a few 3-packs of the Chardonnays and the UV Pinot (Silver Eagle sold out). So I picked up a 3-pack of the UV Pinot partly because of your positive tasting note. She may have more in case you're still interested. Cheers!
5/14/2021 12:01:00 AM - Hey Lite! Sorry for the late reply. Yeah vacations in general and especially Napa trips never seem long enough! Wow that is crazy Shae is the GM of them all! Where does she find the time? I'll definitely reach out to her and hopefully she can hook it up. Trip is coming up so definitely excited! Thanks for your help.
4/27/2021 5:59:00 PM - Hey Chris. I think I can only go down from here... it was a great trip but packed too much into a short period of time but accomplished what we set out to do.
Shae is the GM of all of them so just ask her to set you up and she will be able to handle everything. Have an awesome time!!
4/23/2021 9:17:00 AM - Hey Lite I saw you went to Napa recently and did some epic wine tastings. So jealous! Saw you visited with Kinsman Eades and got to try Impensata as well. I am also a huge fan of Nigel and very intrigued by both Impensata and Bella Oaks. For the tasting did you have to reach out separately to Impensata or just ask Shae/Nigel to include it in the Kinsman Eades tasting? Thanks, Chris
1/17/2021 7:58:00 PM - I always taste a wine when I open it. The Palmer took about 45 minutes to become enjoyable, and then got better and better. (not sure if this is a way to respond to a comment.)
11/25/2020 5:02:00 AM - Hey LiteItOnFire,
With Thanksgiving coming up tomorrow a quick question. What will you be drinking with your turkey dinner? I may not be in the norm but I find a Cabernet Sauvignon does not match well with that bird. I get a little bit of a funny aftertaste. For me a nice rich Syrah goes great with turkey as well as dressing. Dave
11/2/2020 2:38:00 PM - Hi Vintage1949- that was at Guigal when we went through a full tasting of their entire lineup. We were so luck to have been there the day after Wine Spectator (same with Chateau de Beaucastal) did a full tasting. It was so cool!
7/31/2020 3:57:00 AM - Just read your post here. My friends call me a wine snob as I often mumble swill at a pouring of wine in a restaurant. Really, I think to myself, that is what they want me to drink with their fine food.
I have had the good fortune to find bottles at a restaurant for just $65 that were excellent after trying their swill for $12 a glass. Why they don’t offer the better wine is beyond me. I am forced I tell ya-forced by the wine god to order an expensiv bottle at some restaurants as nothing else is worthy to pair with their good food.
I also find it rare that I really get good help from the staff selecting a good bottle of wine.
Well enough of this ranting and raving. I need to pop open a good bottle of wine. :)
7/30/2020 12:13:00 PM - Jeez, here I go again, looking at a 2010 Pichon-Baron and who shows up as having a bunch of bottles? YOU! And now I see you seemingly jumped on the lastbottle offer yesterday of Virginie de Valandraud, which I almost jumped on. I may just give you my cc # and have you buy 2x of whatever you are buying.
1/17/2020 10:36:00 AM - Thanks for all of the suggestions! Those sound very interesting. Officially you can get to the discussions area from mobile, but you need to do the website on a browser and then scroll down for the 'Full CellarTracker View'. It's a lot clunkier. Ovid we've been going to and enjoy. Memento Mori we almost did this trip (really like Sam's wines) so will need to get it on the schedule for next time. Have always been intrigued by Tusk. We've almost bought some of the wine at auction, but it went for more than we wanted given no real knowledge. Hmmmm... Thanks for the suggestions!
11/19/2019 9:28:00 AM - I was at Dom Perignon and Dom Ruinart in both 1991 and 1992. older Doms like the 1990 Dom Perignon in my cellar are fabulous.
P2 vintage 2002 is in a league by itself, some P2 is just OK in my opinion.
10/14/2019 9:22:00 PM - Hey friend! Back from Napa late last night. Have just finished posting my most pertinent notes on CT. Enjoy and let me know if you have any questions....Mark
10/7/2019 6:17:00 PM - Heyo...29 wines in common, very cool. Schooling myself on Napa cabs next and glad your on top of such for reference herein CT. Peace
7/10/2019 1:19:00 PM - lite it on fire, nice cellar, you are doing some serious buying, I love Tor cabs and think they compete well with some cult wines like Harlin at a fraction of the cost.
7/2/2019 7:11:00 PM - Hi liteitonfire, thanks for your comment on La Gravette. I found the wine quite basic for a young(ish) Pomerol at this price. No significant depth to carry it out to a serious drinking window. The tertiary notes are already present and the structure is already well-rounded. Yes, it is enjoyable now, but compared to the 2016, this is aging way too fast.
11/26/2018 5:17:00 AM - "There are plenty of affordable wines by the glass that should be offered vs the swill at most restaurants"
--Ain't that the truth. Wish I had a dollar for every time I looked at the 'by the glass' offerings and thought: "I could do WAY better, at the same price points."
11/9/2018 9:26:00 AM - Have added a tasting story to the 2016 bdx if you want to have a look, just fyi... btw: Couldn't agree more on your restaurant frustrations and the ruining your friends by opening their eyes bit... :)
1/2/2018 1:21:00 PM - Hey - regarding your question about the 2014 Lakoya, I was only able to taste the Howell Mt Cab, so I can't comment on any of the other 2014s. Sorry!
