Enjoyable Barbaresco with fine tannins, expressive nose of roses, tar, cherry and some spices. Palate was very pleasant but lacked some complexity. Perhaps it will gain it with a few more years of cellaring.

Piemonte: Truffles instead of Turkey; 11/23/2023-12/2/2023 (Barolo, Barbaresco, Alto Piemonte and of course Alba): It’s a slightly unfair taste off between two of my favorite Barbaresco producers as we didn’t have the same years or vineyards or really anything that kept things quite in the right range but we figured might be fun to try side by side. The Serafina Rivello was the winner but this was always very nice. To me the very best of Giacosa captures that elegant and light and almost ethereal style of wine. This was a bit heavier or weighed down some but still quite lovely plushness in the fruit and not an overall heavy wine (I’m more comparing to my impressions of the house style than to the overall region).

Firm, very fine, grippy tannins A very expressive nose, beautiful. Lot of red fruit Palette has fruit and some rustic, spicy notes The finish was nice but didn’t seem to have more drawn out complexities for me to rate this higher Excellent expression of barbaresco, very balanced, acidic but not overpowering. A balanced, elegant rustic wine is how I’d think of this This could certainly do with another 5 years of cellaring but is drinking well now
Needs time to open and expresses itself better as it warmed up a little out of the cooler 14.5% alcohol

No rating given Despite being decanted for several hours, it was still too tightly coiled and shy to allow for a proper assessment or read. The quality is obvious, the tannins are extremely well integrated. Very cohesive and concentrated on the palate. But this shouldn’t be drunk young, it will need (and reward) many years and decades of patience.
