Drinking beautifully 17 years out. Deep opaque purple color, nose of black plum jam with notes of cedar after 90-minute decant. Still a black fruit-forward wine with silky tannins and long ripe finish with touches of pine, mint and tobacco. Sure wish I had more.

Blind 2001/2002 Cab Tasting (Chez Hughes): Double blind paired with the 02, and the Forman 01/02. Far, far more modern than the Forman wines. Nose has creamy rich fruit with lots of oak toast. Palate follows suit with rich, dense, creamy fruit. Mocha throughout. Ripe and alcoholic finish. Not my cup of tea, but better than the 02 version of the same.

California Cabernet 2001/2002 Blind Tasting (Hughes House - Chicago IL): Double blind in 01/02 Cali Cab tasting. Fun and rich flavors and aromas, even if ultra modern and a bit oakier than I'd hope/ expect at this age. Slightly one dimensional. Correctly ID'ed this as '01.
