Tasted after 1 hour of air. Dark garnet color. Some smoky meats on the nose. Juicy blackberry fruit. Medium tannins provide grip. Some light spice. Quite a bit going on here. Nice mid palate lift.

Concave aromas, olives, black pepper, basil oil, soy sauce. Dark, savory and complex, pungent in a good way. Black cherry and boysenberry on the front palate, mild acidity, minerality driven, linear flavor profile, fine texture. Concentrated. Soft tannin on the finish, a bit lacking in energy, minerality focused.
Hold next bottle for 5+ years. Love the aromas, though uncertain if the palate will come alive.

This is a good California Syrah. Aromas are consistent with good old world Syrahs, with notes of tar, smoked meat, dried cherries. The texture of the palate would give it away as new world in a blind tasting, though, I'd expect, with its soft texture and moderate acidity. I enjoyed this wine, but these ratings are a bit bewildering in comparison to the Syrahs I love from Sonoma Coast, Washington, or the Northern Rhone.

I think Cote Rotie has broken my ability to judge domestic syrahs, so take that into account - this was a very good wine, but just not to my taste. Lots of cherry/olive at the outset and after a few hours, it mellowed but it did not move me.

LOVE THIS WINE. The coolest climate syrah from the far west Santa Rita Hills. A wine for wine enthusiasts!
