Community Tasting Notes (6) Avg Score: 90 points

  • Classic Bennett valley Syrah on the nose and front end with violet notes and scorched earth that is lightened by a hint of tartness. The Grenache comes through more on the more linear mid palate and finish with red cherries. Moderate tannins and bright acid. No rush on this. 91+

  • Nice blend that is relatively balanced with concentrated fruit, fine tannins at the edge of ripeness without being overripe. Becomes more savory and interesting with air.

  • Still young, but tasting pretty good right now !!
Perfect cork after 6 years in the bottle. Consumed over three days. This wine started a little tight, but opened up and showed better the next day. On day three the fruit was still fresh and acid still firm; this wine had softened to reveal increased depth, texture, and integrated complexity. Dark red color with no oxidation and medium clarity. Aromas of tart cherry, pomegranate, and garrigue. Flavors of black cherry cola, raspberry framboise, glycerin, and leather. This Syrah based Rhone blend has a beautifully long to medium dry finish. A balanced and flavorful selection of 61% Syrah from the Vivio Vineyard and 39% Grenache Noir from Jemrose Vineyard both in coolest parts of Bennett Valley in Sonoma County. This age worthy wine has many more years of life left. A great fruit source and another good winemaking effort from JDB wines. A tiny production made at Caymus, Derek Beitler’s wines are truly worthy of the Wagner family legacy. Bodega Rancho is a tribute to the original land grant that led to the Bear Flag Republic era of the 1800s, before California joined the union. Its historic boundaries overlap with the modern-day Sonoma Coast appellation and Bennett Valley.
