Well this was a most pleasant surprise. Dark mahogany color with a rather shallow nose on opening. Some time breathing really opened the bouquet. On drinking, this is first appeared to be a typical Aussie Shiraz, however not at all a monster. Rather a highly drinkable red with hints of blackberry, and what is best described as a complex, indescribable excellent red wine.

Still very dark purple in colour, but there is a hint of age showing at the rim. Very dark fruited on the nose, but with coffee and oddly a hint of parma violet as well as a little dried fruit. Not as big on the palate as the nose would suggest and at 13.5% alc, this might even qualify as elegant... well not really, but it's got good balance, with supportive acidity. Blackcurrant is the dominant flavour, but there's a faint (and hence ok) hint of creosote. Finish is quite short and there's not an awful lot of complexity, yet this wine still delivers on that balance and hence in it's drinkability. Faint tannins remain and although this might keep, I'm not totally convinced it would improve. It's in a good place now though.

Loved ir. Jammy Black Monster. Tons of fruit, a real well integrated but strong blast of Oak. I served this a little cooler as it came right out of the cellar. Perhaps this just worked better with this bottle a tad cool as other reviewers did not see greatness. I on the other hand really enjoyed this one.

Porterhouse steak, chargrilled medium. Decanted 1hr before tasting. Soft but simple cherry on the nose, but much weaker after the decanting process. Ripe fruit with light oakiness, not very acidic, spicy at times. Reasonable finish that has a good lingering bite, with bitterness that quickly outweighs the fruit.

Nicely evolved but not yet fully mature. Smoke and black fruit on the nose with a tiny bit of iodine. high alcohol but no longer obtrusive.
