  • Anyone looking for an introduction to the lagrein grape would be wise to start here. This is just a splendid example, from what I assume to be a co-op based on the producer's name. An attractive dark ruby color, the nose is expressive of sweet berry fruit with floral and mineral overtones. These are wines that cry out for food, and mine asked for a hearty bolognese, which was a terrific match. Like barbera, this grape has plenty of acid to arm wrestle any tomato based dish and cut through the rich flavor of the pork, beef, and sausage blend my wife threw into tonight's Father's Day repast. Exits with a haunting floral finish, which almost makes you feel like it freshens your breath, though that would be a long shot. I don't think I'll ask my wife if I can breathe all over her as a test.

  • Lots of dark red fruit, with decent acidity and some herbal notes to add interest. Light tannins. Nothing profound, but a pleasant, food-friendly wine for a fair price.
