  • Deep garnet colour. Rich, complex nose. Very savoury and big oak notes. Lots of leather. On the palate, dark fruits but not particularly fruit forward. Oak notes are there. Very dry and a little hint of sourness. Finish shorter than expected. Tannins completely smoothed over with age. Probably a little outside drinking window.

  • Past it's prime. Came across full bodied, but flabby, plummy with a blackberry, light pepper undertone. Bottle purchased from reliable retailer 15 years agan stored by me since then in Eurocave. Cork was perfect. This my second time at drinking a Greenock 7 acre 1996. I'd say Parker overestimated the quality and/or aging potential of this particular vintner/year. It was significantly better 8-10 years ago.

I enjoy old wines, and this was this was a decent bottle, just underwhelming, and monotone. Full bodied, but not worth close to the $90 paid for it.

  • Fruit bomb aussie shiraz, in my experience, don't age. They don't get elegant, profound, nuanced. To me, they just seem to lose focus. The fruit is there, but it's not refined. Nose is complex. The first sip seems really interesting, but by the third sip it's almost cloying--candied oak, port-like flavors without the structure. These are wines made for Robert Parker, not for enjoying throughout the course of the evening. I don't think it will evolve from where it's at now.

  • Feels very young, yet already reached it's amazing peak, where it will stay for a very very long time! Great power and elegance, very pronounced acidity, plumeria, floral, cherries. World class wine!
