Grab Bag Wines with Grilled Pizza (Washington, DC): "Smells like a Fig Newton factory," was my first impression upon sniffing this Zin. Plump and juicy on the palate, not overly alcoholic or sticky. An interesting mix of blueberries and strawberry jam on the palate, with notes of soil and smoke. Still quite big, but perhaps more easygoing than a lot of California Zinfandels.

Lots of sediment and some fishy odor on opening, which quickly blew off. This was a real surprise, as I opened it hoping for a big in-your-face zin, and got a mild-mannered, Pinot-like wine, that was light in color and body, but was still nice, with lots of dried herbs and strawberry on the palate.

PnVnD. Significant sediment on the cork. Medium crimson in color and slightly cloudy...wonder if this wine is unfined and unfiltered. Restrained nose of red berries and a slight floral component. Sweet berries on the palate with noticeable oak and fine grained drying tannins. After 3 hrs in the decanter, the wine started to really sing. The fruit, while still restrained, was much more full and complete.
Enjoyed in a Riedel Chianti Classico glass (415/15).

Very good. Was not impressed in July 2011 with the first bottle (sediment, harsh finish). Longer decant (1 hour) and 6 months has made a huge different. This is excellent for the price.
