  • My first box wine, ever! It is funny how I have no previous knowledge of wine, have had some that were quite good, mostly bad though. So crackin' open this B2008 vintage box I knew it was not going to knock-my-sock's-off, others seem to have thought that. At $24US this equates to a $6US cabernet, so I am happy with my purchase. I get home with the family around 6:00PM, eat, get the kids in bed, and have a moment of pause before hitting the sack so a bottle is out of the question. One glass at a time, quite ingenious, don't ya think? So back to the wine. The color is quite lovely, comforting almost. A sultry ruby red, maybe a little darker. Swish' swish', interesting how legs show. Sniff, ahh, mellow, quite mellow for a cab, earthy, maybe some wild'n crazy berry party going on in their, not too distinct. Taste of a dark red-raspberry, the kind we picked growing up in Ohio. The finish is short to medium, more short and Tannins are only a bit present. All that being said, I used the little rating-assistant to pick a nice average number 84-86'ish. IT WAS $6US A BOTTLE and will be the perfect after work companion.

    Cheers!

  • This is basic, generic red wine. Not much character in the way of aroma or taste. In a blind tasting I'm not sure I could identify the varietal. Not much nose with underlying flavors of berry. Very soft in style, could pass for cheap Merlot. It totally lacks the boldness and distinctive character of Cabernet. I bought this at Costco for a party and never opened it. I 'm not sure I could ever serve this even for a party, unless of course, I despised my guests!

  • First time trying a box wine as I saw in Costco and had heard OK things about this one. Has some of that fake tasting glyceriny texture you often find in low end wines, but certainly finishes better than most mass produced wine. Decent currant fruit without a big mid palate hole often found in this price point. Not a bad choice for a mid week quaffer when you don't want to open a full bottle as you just want a single glass or you're not having "wine food", or serving to a large crowd. Good job keeping fresh.

  • Best cab I've ever had out of a box. Easy 85. Rich aromas of dark fruit complemented by a deep, lush body. Long soft finish with lingering notes of berry.

  • Good basic cab going down. Decent plum and oak on the finish. Reminds us of a Washington State $7 cab. However, don't know if I believe the 13.5% alcohol content on the box, as with one glass seem to feel a slight hangover in the morning, and the only common denomitor is we had a glass of Black Box cab with dinner. Hmmm.
