Pale ruby, with a blood garnet hue, and fading edges. Ripe cranberry and dried floral aromas. Vibrant acids, and elegant, yet with a blast of wet earth flavours as well as cranberry, fern, forest floor, twigs and rosy florals, as well as a tough of pepper and nutmeg. Quite a length. Nice!

Lovely Volnay. Middleweight brambly fruit with a gentle texture. Exquisitely balanced with an underlying sweetness. Perhaps lacking just a touch of oomph.

New producer for me and this is delicious. Crunchy cherry fruit, earth and minerals, and fine tannins. This is complex and deep but middleweight and pretty drinkable.

Had a blind tasting and drinking of 3 great bottles from Roblet Monnet for dinner with 8 wine friends: the 2011 Volnay St-Francois; 2010 premier cru Volnay Brouillards and 2009 premier cru Volnay Taillepieds. The Saint Francois and the Taillepieds were both very light and complex with bright, but not fruity taste - slight overall preference for the Taillepieds for these two. The Brouillards was much heavier and earthier. The group was split on the Brouillards or the Taillepieds being the favorite. All courses, including cheese for dessert, were taken from food-pinot web sites for pairing.

Medium body medium red wine. Good nose followed by a mix of cherry and other fruit. Nice finish. This wine opened nicely after 45 minutes.
