Entering a dried dusty fruit phase -- good strength and acidity remaining to provide backbone. Tannins are chalky and resolved giving it fine balance. Plenty to think about in the herby nose and meaty palate with complex secondary notes entangling dark and red fruit. Best to drink now, but could hold out a few more years before losing its balance.
Coincidentally someone at another table recognized the label and mentioned they helped plant the vines in the 70s/80s. His family backed the story when they arrived. Thanks for the grapes Tim.

Smokiness and blackberries on the nose -- Still a big nose. Palate is chewy, dark, deeply fruity, with tobacco and flint, plus dark berries and aged beef. Still some good acidity and moderate tannins rounding out the flavors.

Smokiness and blackberries on the nose -- Huge nose making you want to bury your nose in this stuff. Palate is chewy, dark, deeply fuiity, with tobacco and flint, plus dark berries and aged beef. Tart backbone with wonderful balance. Pretty significant tannins carry on and on. I had this for drink-by 2015, but this is way too big a wine to say it is at its end, so I'm moving it out a couple of years.

Disappointing. Very "flat" with little tannins left. Had the '95 over the summer, which was excellent. Seems well past prime.

Not quite as a knockout as the bottle two years ago, but still has the same features (in those notes) but a bit muted. Probably time to drink up.
