8/7/2023 10:24:00 AM - It is surprising to me that Eric LeVine changed the rating groups on the newer site and left them as is on the older site. I rarely actually use the words "outstanding", etc. but in this case that usage brought up the conflict between what you read and what you normally see in the newer site. Perhaps Eric just didn't want to deal with any changes on the old site, even if a minor one to fix (I assume). Mostly I use the older site, since it has a few functions that I can't find on the new site.

8/7/2023 10:19:00 AM - Hi JWG, thanks also for the other comment on the use of the same scale for very different wines. I agree that to keep things simple is a good solution. But I like Jasper Morrison solution too.

8/7/2023 10:13:00 AM - The scale I see is: Good 80-85 Very good 86-89 Excellent 90-93 Outstanding 94-97 Extraordinary 98-100 Perhaps you are using the classic mode? You are certainly among the early users, and I just checked and it indeed shows your scale. Anyway, this solves my doubt that about your rating vs words, and we even learned something about Cellartracker!

8/7/2023 2:24:00 AM - Hi JWG, thank you for your message. No animus at all against the scoring system, I just don't feel comfortable using it, and sometime I ask fellow cellartrackers to explain their ratings, just to better understand. But yes, before asking the question I went to check the range corresponding to "Outstanding" in the cellar tracker wine rating assistant, and it says 94-97. Anyway, I was just curious to understand the logic behind your words and rating. Some people feel that "simpler" wines, like a Barbera, or a Riesling Kabinett, even if they are exceptional in their own category, don't deserve top scores. Jasper Morris adopts a double scoring system: 100 points and five stars. With this system, an exceptional village can be 90 something (well below 100), but five stars.

10/2/2022 4:55:00 PM - Thanks for the reply. Just posted my reply on that comment thread, but not sure if you'll receive a notification (see link below) ... I'm still a rookie about how CT functions. https://www.cellartracker.com/note.asp?iWine=2522259&iNote=10060245
