The "Baby Tignanello". A Chianti Classico Riserva from one of the most famous vineyards on the planet, Antinori's Tenuta Tignanello in the heart of Chianti Classico. As a 2007 Riserva from Tignanello, this is about as good as Chianti can get. Somewhat limited that is. Nicely balanced, with well integrated tannins at old age. Decent acidicity, not much of a nose. Red fruit and tart cherry dominate on the palate being the reason I am not a fan of Chiantis. Different thing altogether with the Brunello sub-variety up around Montalcino, that's much better. This wine is distinctly Chianti with all the limitations that entails. Like a bad, cheap Brunello. Not bad as such, but far from stellar.

Deep garnet it in color. Nose of dark cherries, leather, and hint of earth. Lovely taste of cherries, hints of plums, tobacco, and Hence of raspberry. Lovely structure, nicely balanced, and evolve nicely over two hour period. Drink over the next 5 to 7 years.

Dark opaque red. Full bodied. Excellent after it breathes. Twenty four hours after opening plenty of fruit flavors, mostly black cherry, tannins that were strong when first uncorked, mellowed and softened.
