Ambient air temp was about 80, wine temp was probably around 75 (I really need to get a thermometer). The temps had an effect.
I’d serve this with roast / grilled Lamb or Pork (and have) – the tannins and acid will nicely complement the meat – accompany with summer squash lightly sautéed in brown butter and herbs, and perhaps some asparagus.
Overall this was a good, workman like Wa red blend – not jammy or over-oaked. I suspect that Merlot was the basis of the blend and Goose Ridge threw in whatever they had left over. If you’ve got any (and I doubt that) drink it down, it’s not going to get any better.
This wine was clear, medium ruby on the edges shading to garnet at the center. No obvious faults or flaws.
On the nose it was clean with a medium intensity aroma of plum, cedar, vanilla, red currants, alcohol and herbal notes - slightly vegetal, but not unpleasant.
On the palate it was dry with medium-minus soft tannins, and medium acidity – nicely balanced. Vanilla, oak and alcohol dominated, with a hint of stone fruit – slightly (pleasantly) bitter on the finish, which was of medium length. This wine was definitely stronger on the nose than the palate.
