  • Tasted as part of a mini-vertical with the '75, '85, and '95. I found myself slightly disappointed with this wine given its reputation. It is a crowd pleaser for sure, and a bit more modern in style compared to the other wines, which translates to "not my style." Still very primary, velvety smooth, wrapped in a cloak of ripe black fruit and oak. I tried this over three nights hoping to get a glimpse of its future but it still seems rather monolithic and one-dimensional. I'll hold my remaining bottles for another 10+ years.

  • Deep magenta with graphite and finish that goes on forever. Could last easily another 20 years

  • Ruby / garnet in the glass
Took 6 hours and 3 nights to open (decanter the first night and put away after 3 hours of no progress). Shocker because last year I don’t recall this being a challenge ( that said I do think our results are more in keeping with other CT results).

Ultimately, we found blackberry, earth, oak and cedar and graphite but we had to dig deep. Very dry. Med+ to high acidity. Long finish.

Still on the journey. Restrained to the point it is locked away. Years from peaking I think.

  • Deeply coloured, red rim.
Beautifully fragrant, cassis graphite and a hint of forest.
Silky smooth, weightless, glides across then bites with well balanced acid and super fine tannins. Flavours are classic Bordeaux, cassis, graphite, tobacco leaf complexity, a hint of mocha and leather. Delicious drinking but will hold for decades.

  • Bottle in perfect condition, cork pristine. Decanted for three hours. Medium garnet colour, very little sediment. Cherry, black currant, plum, cedar, tobacco, light coffee, light chocolate, spices, graphite, gravelly minerality, and a high-end balsamic vinegar note after further breathing, with fresh acidity, well-integrated tannin, and great persistence. Medium-bodied, balanced, and fresh, with impressive structure. Still firm and restrained, reminding me of many Bordeaux of the 1995 vintage. Holds a lot of promise, but for now the value for money is off. I would love to try this again in ten years! 92(++)

Rockss and Fruit

(Lynch Bages) This was very very closed on the nose. I actually didn't smell anything. I swirled and swirled but could not really coax anything. It was the end of the bottle too. The palate was tight but I got more out of that than the nose. Somewhat fleshy with dark concentrated fruit, nice acids and some pretty clamby tannins. The fruit though extended on the finish. It was sweet, classy and very nice. Do not open for at least five years.

(Lynch Bages) This was completely closed down. Hint of earth and mineral on the pretty ungiving nose. Dense and ripe with great fruit. Long, long, long but also tannic, tannic, tannic. Incredible underlying material but very tough to taste today.
